Accessibility Case Study
For this project, I wanted to focus on accessibility on a mobile platform. Using my experience in finance I opted to review accessibility features on a mobile banking platform.
Mobile banking platforms allow for a new way of banking. Users can review statements, transactions, process deposits and transfers, as well as view insights on their banking. Most online banking platforms share similar features, specifically for searching and reviewing transactions, there are some that do things differently.
The search and filter options are different and vary on how/where they are present on the screen. I am focusing on how accessible they are and how their design can be improved upon.
Time Frame: 2 weeks
Project Type: UI Design, Accessibility Design, IOS Mobile Design
Tools: Figma
Objectives
Identify and review search and filter options on mobile platforms. Understand their function and how accessibility is accounted for.
Re-design a mobile interface using existing files to include an updated accessibility option for users.
Complete project in a shorter time frame to simulate a shorter sprint timeline.
Analysis
Research:
I started by reviewing 4 different online banking platforms to understand what features are presented and how they are presented. I compiled a list of features, strengths, and weaknesses next to visuals of what those platforms look like.
I summarized what I found and noted differences that impacted accessibility. Using accessibility guidelines from online sources, I researched to formulate a better understanding of what accessibility concerns might have been brought up during my research.
Problems:
Each platform tended to choose one feature to utilize instead of using both. The popular one was the filter tab, which included the most common/most popular options. For those needing to use a page reader function, this could pose an issue.
Certain filter options limited the amount of transactions you could view at one time. You would have to manually change the filter options further.
The filter/search option was hard to view/navigate at times.
